Tidy up your desk.

How to do it

Take a few minutes to clean off your desk. You can do this whether your desk is in an office or in your kitchen (or even the corner of the dining room table). Put all your pens and pencils in a container. Go through all your papers. Shed or toss the ones you don't need and put the ones you're not sure what to do with in a brightly colored folder for later review.

Why it matters

Whoever said a messy desk is a sign of creativity never tried to work at one. Simply clearing the physical space can help clear the mental space in your mind. As one expert said: "A chaotic or disorganized workplace makes it harder to do everyday tasks, so you always feel like you're running behind."
