Healthy Behaviors is about lifestyle habits, namely healthy eating and physical activity, which have proven connections to lifelong health and disease prevention.
Start 1 meal today with a colorful salad.
How to do it
Choose one meal today and start it with salad! Make your salad with red, green, yellow, or orange peppers, dark green lettuce, mushrooms, cucumbers, raspberries, kiwi . . . any raw vegetables or fruits that you like! Just remember to skip the high-fat cheeses and dressings.
Why it matters
A low-calorie salad is a great way to kick off a meal, because it can satisfy your hunger and help you eat less of the higher calorie foods that follow. Not only that, studies show that high-fiber, low-fat, plant-based diets can lower the risk of heart disease and rates of some common types of cancers.
Cucumbers belong to the same family as watermelon, zucchini, pumpkin, and squash.
