Everyday Well-Being

Bring a plant into your home or office.

How to do it

Turn over a new leaf and bring a new plant into your home or office. You can find small, inexpensive plants at supermarkets and nurseries. Don't want to spend any green on your indoor greenery? Take a clipping from outdoors. If you don't have any natural light, try a snake plant or cactus. (If you want to buy a plant but aren't able to today, add it to your shopping list.)

Why it matters

Plants remove carbon dioxide from the air, but their real benefits may have more to do with how flora make us feel! Some researchers think that just seeing green plants can have a calming effect on us and reduce our stress. In fact, being in the same room with plants can cause a slight drop in blood pressure.

Fun fact

The carnivorous Venus Flytrap can be grown in many places, but it's only found natively within a 60-mile (97-kilometer) radius of Wilmington, North Carolina.
