Thanks for the encouragement, Kathleen - I've been thinking a lot about favorite meals and favorite foods lately, given I'm on the road to weight loss surgery, trying to ensure that I have a way to prevent eating those favorite things that jeopardize my health.
My favorite meal is a dinner out at The Melting Pot - starting with the salad course with their delicious house honey mustard dressing, continuing through the swiss cheese fondue course, dipping bread and vegetables, then the entree course cooked in oil, with beef and chicken and shrimp, as well as the most tasty of all, button mushroom caps stuffed with green goddess dressing, coated in batter and fried. Top it all off with the chocolate fondue mixed with amaretto, dipping the strawberries and bananas and cheesecake in it. The entire meal is generally paired with a bottle of White Zinfandel wine, and takes somewhere around 3 hours when shared with good company.
I love all the different smells and tastes and textures all layered on each other to make a great dining experience. Meals where there's a little bit of everything are sensory pleasures, and make them my favorite. And although I enjoy the hell out of them, I can't continue to indulge.
My most successful dietary periods were preceded by a "let's go to Melting Pot, and I'll start eating healthy tomorrow". Often that's considered a bad idea, but I've gone years without straying when I've had my big "farewell to food" meal at Melting Pot. It's time to schedule my last one soon.
