Everyday Well-Being

Boost your energy and pledge to replace an alcoholic or sugary drink with water or sparkling water.

How to do it

The next time you're thinking of having an alcoholic or sugar-sweetened beverage, go for water or sparkling water instead.

Why it matters

Of course, an occasional drink may not be all bad. But alcohol can lead to dehydration - which can cause headaches and sap energy - and make you feel tired the next day. Sugar-sweetened beverages can cause a big post-sugar crash that can stand in the way of your get-up-and-go. Making a one-time switch to water lets you evaluate how your energy level is affected - and may encourage you to switch more often!

Fun fact

Maryland was the only state that never enforced Prohibition, the period between 1920 and 1933 that made illegal the production, transportation, and sale of most alcoholic beverages in the United States.
