Healthy Behaviors is about lifestyle habits, namely healthy eating and physical activity, which have proven connections to lifelong health and disease prevention.
Add 1 choline-rich food to your shopping list, such as salmon, eggs, chicken, tofu, or chickpeas.
How to do it
As you write your supermarket shopping list, add one food that is high in choline. Tasty choices include cod, salmon, eggs, chicken, turkey, lean beef, tofu, chickpeas, or lentils.
Why it matters
Choline is an essential nutrient that is used by the brain and nervous system. Studies have shown that people who have a lot of choline in their diets may have a sharper memory, and that a lifetime of eating choline-rich food may help lessen the risks of brain changes that can lead to dementia. Bonus: choline-rich foods are also packed with other healthy nutrients, so your whole body benefits.
The lentil is believed to be the oldest cultivated legume - seeds have been found in Egyptian tombs dating from the twelfth dynasty (2400 B.C.)!
