Write a wish list for the next 12 months, and circle the top thing you'd like to achieve.

How to do it

Spend a minute making an uncensored list of everything you want in your life for the next year. On the list, include your desires for your health, money, relationships, career, and hobbies. Circle the number-one thing you'd like to achieve, and ask yourself the steps it would take to make it a reality.

Why it matters

Thinking about how you'd like your year to go helps you clarify your goals. And though making goals is a good start to achieving your dreams, research shows that identifying the concrete, measurable actions you need to take is even more powerful. By thinking about what it would take to make your number-one wish come true, it begins to move it from wish to reality.

According to one study about wishes, the most common wishes were for friends, happiness, health, marriage, money, success, self-improvement, and to help other people.
