Everyday Well-Being

Take 3 minutes to close your eyes and focus on the sensations in your body.

How to do it

Set a timer on your phone or watch for three minutes. Sit or lie down somewhere comfortable. Close your eyes and notice the feeling of your breath. Pay attention to the sensations in your feet, your stomach, your neck, and your shoulders. Do all the parts of your body feel the same? Notice feelings of pain, tension, softness, and warmth. When the timer rings, open your eyes.

Why it matters

Checking in with the different parts of your body is a form of meditation. In just a few moments, you can become more aware of the sensations in your body, feelings you might lose touch with during a busy day. When you open your eyes, you will feel calmer, more centered, and less stressed.

Fun fact

Humans have more than just five senses. Researchers count at least nine: The classical five senses, plus balance, temperature, pain, and awareness of one's body.
