Community well-being comes from feeling safe and secure where you live.
Check the manufacturing dates printed on the smoke alarms in your home.
How to do it
Grab a step ladder and take a quick tour of your home. Take each smoke alarm down and look for the date of manufacture printed on the back. Make a note to replace any smoke alarms that were manufactured more than 10 years ago.
Why it matters
Like other electronics, smoke alarms wear out over time. After 10 years, they become less effective at detecting smoke. Knowing the age of your smoke alarms can help you feel more confident that your home is safe.
Deep Purple's 1972 hit "Smoke on the Water" is one of the few songs that the band Black Sabbath ever covered in a live performance.
