I may do this & I may not. probably the next time we go out to eat will be thanksgiving!! I don't want to fill up on salad first!! ha ha. I will keep this in mind for a future restaurant visit!
today was a sad day for us at our house. our cat Oscar passed during the night. last night when I was holding him before bed, I had the feeling he was dying. I told him good-bye & that it was ok to go...
I think he got to do all his favorite things when he returned home. sit on the sofa in his spot, lay by the tub his other favorite spot & sleep in the closet, another favorite spot which he did when he was able to walk.
my husband & I held him nightly for hours before bed. he was loved. a friend of mine told me that he hung on & waited for us to find him. I am grateful we found him at the humane society in time. too bad it wasn't in time to save his life. I don't think he ate during his time there which was 5 days added on to the 4 weeks he was outside trying to survive & probably not eating. very sad...
the staff at the vet clinic were all very nice when I brought his body in for cremation. I am opting to not save his ashes as I haven't done that with any of our pets over the years. at least his suffering with the upper respiratory illness is over. I felt so bad trying to get him to eat & drink. it sure was time consuming caring for him but worth our last few days together.
I still am in the habit of looking for him as I drive in our neighborhood. we spent a long time hoping we would see him on the road side or in our yard... my husband was just saying that Oscar deserved to die with us & not outside alone & cold.
thanks for listening!

p.s. thanks Vivian for your encouragement! ;-)
thanks to Vivian & Rose for your nice encouragements! ♥ ♥
I read the link about storing food safely in the refrigerator!
we had a cold day today with a bit of wind but at least no rain but sure was cloudy!!
I am working hard with our cat Oscar! he is breathing better without the snuffling when we sit in the bathroom with the shower on for a period of time. he is eating more wet canned food with a syringe. still doing good with his fluids with an eye dropper. I also have increased his subQ fluids from 100 ml to 150 ml. I am hoping that will help. he is sleeping a lot & is so thin, it's so sad. we hope he can recover but only time will tell!
have a terrific Thursday everyone!!

challenge done! one I can do!! :-)
we had a rainy day today!! I saw people raking leaves anyway! we still have a lot of leaves on our lawn but between snow & rain, not many days good for raking!!
I have spent my day caring for our poor cat Oscar. he seems to be taking fluids & small amounts of the vet clinic cat food. some throwing up due to the congestion but not as much as yesterday. the nasal congestion is still annoying for him. I am keeping his nostrils on the outside as clean as I can.
the vet said to put him in the bathroom with the shower on so that the mist can help his nasal issues. it seemed to help maybe a little bit. poor guy. he can't even stand anymore since yesterday afternoon. he is so weak. I did the sub Q fluids, 100 ml. my husband helped hold him while I did the rest. we will do our best but we may have to have him put to sleep which is so sad. he endured so much with being lost for 4 weeks & his 5 days at the humane society after that... he has literally been starving as he is unable to hunt without his front claws.

my favorite filling breakfast is oatmeal with yogurt, fruit & nuts! challenge done!
Oscar, our cat who was lost for 4 weeks hasn't been doing well. he is much weaker & barely able to walk today. I had him to the vet. she gave him an antibiotic shot so I don't have to mess with giving him the oral Zithromax. she also showed me how to do subq fluids. he took 100 ml comfortably but more he got uncomfortable. I can only do this daily. I also got canned food that has nutrition he needs & was told I could use a syringe to feed little bits to him. I have been using a dropper for water & chicken broth several times a day today. he threw up twice. I think it's all the phlegm he has with his upper respiratory infection. it's so sad he cries before he throws up or when he cant breathe good. I will call the vet tomorrow to see if there is something I can give him for the phlegm production. animals I don't think breathe through their mouths easily like we can with a cold. both my husband & I have spent hours literally today holding him wrapped in a blanket. it's been very sad & stressful. I thought I would be having him euthanized today at the vet's. she really wanted to give him a chance. that's my Oscar update.
thank you to the cat/animal lovers out there who have shared supportive comments.

thank you Vivian for your encouragement! ♥
my chore today was filling the bird feeders. I have put it off for a few days since our cat Oscar is home. glad to get it done when it wasn't snowing or bitter cold.
Oscar my cat who was lost for 4 weeks, has been drinking water. I have tried a variety of fluids & food items. he sniffs the bowls but doesn't eat or drink other things. I used an extra syringe I have for his medication to give him chicken broth. he drank that well. I also got kitten formula for him & am using a dropper to feed him. he really likes that. I think after starving for 4 weeks, his tummy probably can't handle much in terms of volume. he has been sleeping deeply too.
today Oscar followed me down the stairs to the shower. he even walked into the bathroom! he usually doesn't do that. he is a bit wobbly but determined.
I hope everyone has a great start to their week!!

I have stretches I do on the floor & did this on the floor. the chair just didn't feel good for my back. challenge modified & done!
One of my connections has a 50th wedding anniversary! congrats!!
our snow from last night slowly melted today. still some out there & got a bit icy on the trial when I took my walk. have to start looking out for ice these days!
thank you Howard for your encouragement!
our cat Oscar is drinking water but not eating much. I think it's hard for him to eat after starving for so long. he is peeing which is a start. he has been alert for over 8 hrs & is now sleeping in the closet (his favorite spot for privacy). he has been tired. I think after his ordeal outside & then the humane society for 5 days... last evening he explored the whole house walking into every room. I think he got tired out poor little guy!! his sneezing & sniffling is better with his second dose of Zithromax.
I hope everyone has a restful Sunday! ♥ ♥ ♥
we have thrift stores & a goodwill which are all good places to buy used items. at this time I have no need for any used items!
well, I have some good news! I was looking at the found pets that are listed on our local humane society web page. one was very suspicious & could be our Oscar. the age was 10 yrs & he is 15. the photo looked like a really scruffy cat which I figured he would be by now after being lost outside for a month now since last oct 11th. the city was Minneapolis & not our suburb but I decided to call anyway.
I am glad I did. found out he was found in our suburb & the estimate was 10 plus years. everything else fit but they didn't list if he was declawed. the staff actually went to his cage & checked his front paws & said he was declawed!
my husband went with me & he was indeed our Oscar. he was scruffy & had lost 5 lbs (he was only 10 lbs to begin with). they de-wormed him, he has no fleas, he is on an antibiotic for 10 days liquid in a syringe for an upper respiratory infection (he is sneezing but not coughing). they had been giving him fluids subQ. poor guy had diarrhea. it was explained that he probably has been starving & if food is introduced, his stomach lining & intestines can't handle it very well. he is suppose to have small amounts of food.
once we got home we used a dry shampoo to clean him up as they didn't bathe him. he was at the humane society for 5 days. they charged us for the vet cost & shots (even though he had shots with our vet they don't know when they get a stray in). it was $40 & we donated some money as well.
we are happy he has been walking around the house, checking out his usual spots & his verbalizations sound like Oscar. we are positive it is him & glad to have him home! poor guy, we can't imagine his journey. he supposedly crossed a major hwy along a county road & went up another county road (these are all business & residential areas with lots of traffic). he wasn't too far from us maybe a mile or so.
thanks for reading all of this!! a good day at our house!

thank you Vivian for your encouragement!
3 gifts would be a great aunt who was a librarian. she gave me a love of books! I had a favorite uncle who was a photographer & very artistic. he gave me a love of art in many forms. I have to say for my 3rd gift is girl scouts in general, helped me to love the outdoors!!
our temps today were around 14 degrees! I had to really bundle up to take my walk!! I was cold. I am not used to this cold yet. I was reading how last fall at this time we had temps in the 60-70's. I guess there's a polar vortex hitting Minnesota now!!
I hope everyone has a fantastic Friday!! my husband has the day off for veterans day.

thank you Howard & Vivian for your encouragements!! :-)
I love bringing casseroles to potlucks but they aren't very healthy. I like to make mac & cheese from scratch or tater tot casserole (I do add peas)! my grandkids love them! I also do lasagna but I use ground turkey meat instead of hamburger.
I am on line late. had bills to pay & cards to write!!
we started to get some light snow tonight. hopefully it won't accumulate!! I had my acupuncture appointment, swimming, walking, vacuuming & even stopped to stock up on corn & bird seed! during my walk I counted 5 muskrats & realized as the marsh grasses have died away, there are 5 muskrat houses in the marsh area! it was fun watching them swimming & eating in the marsh.
